Alright so The Mack is a film that was released in the early seventies. It is supposed to be one of the better Blaxploitation films of the time. This movie has a huge cult following. It also has an early appearance from Richard Pryor.

If you want a more detailed summary click on the IMDB link above but the bottom line is we are following a pimp around as he tries to make it big.

I did not like this movie and do not understand it’s cult appeal. It was terribly edited, the acting seemed like everyone was drunk or high when they were filming the scenes and was unfunny.

When I say unfunny please understand that I do have a sense of humor. I actually like silly comedy and also love laughing at old movies that don’t mean to be funny but are. I mean come on I have basically started a blog celebrating them. But this movie was just not funny at all.

Also the movie was boring. You kept waiting for some plot point to happen that kind of shifted the gears to a place that would have moved the film along but it never happened. And I am a patient person that can sit through bad over bloated French movies. But at least in those there is a point where something…anything happens to trick you into staying with the movie. This one did not have that.

I always read from directors that say this movie was an influence (Tarentino for one) but for once I do not see why. This movie was one of the few movies from that era that I think was just bad…and not in a good way.

I cannot think of any reason for me to recommend this movie to anyone. I feel like this movie was a black hole that sucked away time that I will never have back. So if you do not have anything to do and want to watch a film that sucks the time and life away from for 2 hours then go ahead and watch. Otherwise stay away from this movie.
